Land Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional territories of the Indigenous peoples of Alberta. We recognize and honor the longstanding relationship that the Cree, Dene, and Métis peoples have maintained with these lands for countless generations.

Specifically, we acknowledge that this land falls within Treaty 8 territory, a historic agreement between the Indigenous peoples and the Crown that spans across Alberta. We acknowledge and respect the contributions and enduring presence of the diverse Indigenous communities who live on Turtle Island.

We also recognize and honor the Métis Nation, whose rich cultural heritage and history are deeply woven into the fabric of this region. The Métis people have played and continue to play a vital role in shaping the identity and character of Alberta.

Furthermore, we extend our recognition to the Inuit people, whose connections to the land and water extend beyond what is commonly acknowledged. While Alberta is not traditionally Inuit territory, we acknowledge the importance of recognizing and respecting the diverse Indigenous nations, including the Inuit, who contribute to the cultural mosaic of Canada.

As we gather on this land, let us reflect on the importance of reconciliation, understanding, and partnership with the Indigenous peoples of Alberta. May we strive to build meaningful relationships and work together towards a future that respects the rights, cultures, and traditions of all Indigenous peoples.
